The architectural competition for the redevelopment of the former Cineplexx cinema location on Reichsbrücke was completed in September 2012. The architectural team project A01 architects, led by Andreas Schmitzer and Maria Planegger, was selected by the jury as the winning project in the two-stage expert procedure with its design consisting of two buildings – a striking residential tower and a residential building.

DANUBEFLATS is, the name of the new landmark, will be built directly on the New Danube. The developers, a consortium of S+B Group and Soravia Group, will build around 600 freely financed freehold and retirement flats on up to 49 storeys - almost every flat with access to a balcony or terrace. The base building will house social infrastructure facilities such as a kindergarten, supermarket, café, restaurant and other local suppliers for daily needs.
